Halloween trick or treat candy season is upon us, and if you are like me, I monitor how much sweets my daughter eats or drinks. It can be hard to find a balance between an occasional treat VS. everyday sugary items at every turn -- sugar is hidden in so many items.
I don't want my daughter to be the odd one out at play dates or school, and goodness knows, she will eventually have many tempations at sleepovers, school events, and more. For now, I try to at least regulate how much she gets and provide better options.
For this year's trick or treating, I tried to come up with ideas for non-candy ideas to pass out, kid-approved, and have them be economical too.
Green Halloween Treats / Party Goodie Bag Ideas:
~ Print out Fall or Halloween inspired color pages
~ Buy a big box of pencils, crayons or washable markers and hand out one or two
~ Erasers, whistles, or other party items. You can visit the party store for multi-party packed items.
~ Glow stick bracelets - keep the kiddos safe and help them be seen while trick or treating or at a party. While not green per se, they are non-toxic and a fun item that can be easily be found at Michaels Craft Store, Walmart, Target dollar bins, etc. Usually a pack of 15 is $1.
~ Fruit Leather - no sugar added and they come individually wrapped
~ Grammy Jammies - individually wrapped
~ Revolution Mashables - delicious and nutritious squeezable fruit and vegetable smoothie
~ Plum Kids Fruit Shreds
~ Coins - cash is always king :)
~ Clif Bars
~ Annie's Fruit Snacks
~ Individually packed fish crackers or bunny crackers
What other ideas can you come up with?
Other green halloween ideas: Consider a costume swap play date or host a healthy food only halloween potluck - you'd be surprised how creative your guests can be when asked.
Have a fun, safe and happy green Halloween!
I finally found a great solution to help remove tangles from my daughter's hair: The Knot Genie.
The Knot Genie is a specially constructed hair brush with various length bristles. And yes, it does work.
We've had an ongoing problem -- one that was traumatic for everyone involved: brushing her hair after bath time and before leaving the house, etc. Oh, what a fuss she made! Stressful for her, stressful for me and my husband.
I tried numerous hair spray detanglers, leave in conditioners, my own special shampoos and conditioners, and nothing truly worked. I looked around for a special comb but wasn't really coming up with a good option. Finally and randomly, Zullily offered the Knot Genie. I was already ordering a couple of other items, so I decided to give it a shot. I am happy I did.
The only unfortunate thing is my daughter is predisposed to the tangle removal process, so she still fusses. But seriously, in a few strokes of the brush it is over. I know she will eventually learn to not fuss -- she also battled over tooth brushing, but that has ceased.
All in all, a thumbs up from me -- IMHO the brush works. Give it a try.
