Our Vallejo Freecycle group is very active, and is hosted via a yahoo!group. I post a lot of give away items -- always in like new condition, so I know first hand that a lot of items are not necessarily junk. We all know how easy it is to accumulate stuff, and how important it is to keep it all in check.
Here are some example posts: People are moving and can't take items with them; thinning out their kitchen; remodeled their bathroom; have too many plants in the garden, or perhaps one is looking for required items to finish building a project or create art.
Whatever your reason for needing to give away items or to post a request, Freecycle is a great way to recycle or up-cycle, and reduce waste.
If you haven't heard of Freecycle, it is a national online network that helps you connect with others either trying to find items or give away and receive items, and helps keep items out of the landfills.

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 5,047 groups with 8,968,310 members around the world. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers (them's good people).
Membership is free.
